The Baltic Sea is certainly harsh; in the hottest summer season it warms up to a maximum of + 20 - +22 degrees Celsius. That is why swimming in the Baltic is not very comfortable, you can only take a dip and swim back and forth. The swimming season, namely the swimming season, and not the beach season, in Jurmala lasts only two months, from July to August, if you are lucky with the weather, sometimes even September months.

However, despite the relatively cold sea, Jurmala attracts a lot of tourists and local residents like a magnet. And all this thanks to the healthy and fresh air of the pine forest, and when the smell of fresh pine resin mixes with the sea breeze, the air is filled with simply fabulous aromas. Jurmala also attracts with its famous sanatoriums and SPA centers, and, of course, its main pearl - clean, wide beaches with white quartz sand.

Jurmala is not a city in the usual sense of the word and not a station, it is a seaside consisting of holiday villages, which by now have already turned into areas of the modern center. That is why, if you decide in the public transport schedule, you will not find such a station as Jurmala, the stations are named after villages, so there are villages such as Priedaine, Lielupe, Bulduri, Dzintari, Majori, Dubulti, Valteri, Jaundubulti, Pumpuri, Melluzi, Asari, Vaivari, Sloka , Kauguri, Jaunkemeri, Kemeri.

All these areas of Jurmala stretch along the coast, forming 32-kilometer beaches washed by the waters of the Baltic Sea.

Special wooden floorings are laid along the sand to the sea, providing access to the water for disabled people in wheelchairs. An abundance of signs allows you to immediately find showers or toilets. There is a rescue station. Rent of sun loungers, pedal boats and inflatable rides. There is an ice cream kiosk and a cafe. There is ample parking, and there is also parking for disabled vehicles.

Thanks to the treatment facilities located in this area, the water meets the highest quality standards.

Vetsaki- Riga city sea beach in the other direction from Jurmala.

The sea beach in Vecaki is no worse than the beach in Jurmala. A new tiled path leads to the beach, convenient for cyclists, mothers with strollers and people with limited mobility.

In addition to the usual beach toilets, a new sanitary complex has been added: there are showers, a mother and child room, regular toilets and toilets for the disabled. Outdoor exercise equipment for adults has been installed, and there are beach volleyball courts. For children, a new play complex has recently been created that meets European Union standards; comfortable and safe swings have been installed, including those with enclosed seats for the little ones. A basket swing (the so-called “stork’s nest”), so beloved by children, was also added. In the near future, a 3.5-meter high pyramid net will be installed for teenagers. There are rental points for sun loungers and inflatable trampolines. When leaving the beach, foot showers are installed so that you can wash away any accumulated sand. There are trash containers at every step. A separate smoking area has been created. Special equipment sifts the beach sand daily to eliminate any debris.

As for the rescuers, in Vetsaki they have not just a tower, but a well-equipped rescue station that operates all year round. Rescuers travel around the vast beach on ATVs; two inflatable rescue boats are on duty on the water in full readiness. In general, the beach in Vecaki is not only not inferior to the beaches of Jurmala, but also has its own advantages.

Kishezers- city park in Mežaparks on Lake Kišezers.

The beach in Mežaparks on Kišezers is as informal as on Kipsala. Ten meters from the beach, there is a support base for the rescue service of the Riga Municipal Police. At the pier, powerful speedboats dance on a shallow wave. There is a serious rescue station on the shore with its own video surveillance center. Like in Vetsaki, it is open all year round. So the safety of swimmers is in good hands. The beach at Kišezers is small. The bottom is sandy, muddy, recently cleared and deepened to six meters. There are no conditions on the shore to play football or volleyball. Attractions for children include swings and climbing frames, but the playgrounds are located in another part of this huge forest park. Sun, lake water, cafes - all the components of a beach holiday!

Asari- part of the city of Jurmala, located 28 km from Riga.

This place has had its name since the 19th century (the name comes from the house of Asar). Construction began in the second half of the 19th century. The place is famous for its strawberries. Strawberries were first planted here in 1877 - they were brought from France by the owner of the Cortesi dacha. In the 1930s, Asari was a favorite vacation spot for wealthy residents of Riga.
On Dzimtenes Street 1 there is a recreation park with attractions, a dance floor, a sports equipment rental office and a cafe.

Bulduri- part of the city of Jurmala, located 17 km from Riga.

This place was named after the owner of the estate, Johann Buldrink, who lived in the 15th century. This is one of the first dacha areas - its development began in the 40s. 19th century. In 1875, about 400 dachas were already built. On the territory of today's Bulduri Horticultural College there is also a Dendrological Park. Development along the sea began at the turn of the century, when the territory was divided into dirt plots with a regular layout. Prosperous representatives of the German circles of Riga lived here, for which this place was often called a “German fortress.”

Vaivari- area of ​​the Latvian resort city of Jurmala, 30 km from Riga.

Vaivari is often called the quietest place on the Riga seaside. This is one of the most sparsely populated and quiet parts of Jurmala. Located between Kauguri and Asari.

Dubulti- the oldest part of the Jurmala resort and the administrative center of Jurmala.

Located 22 km from Riga. In Dubulti, the Lielupe River is separated from the sea only by a narrow strip of land 320 meters wide.

Dubulti has been mentioned in historical sources since the 18th century. A little later, a fishing village was formed there - one of the oldest on the coast of the Kurzeme Bay. The first noble vacationers visited the beaches here as early as 1814. In 1832, Barclay de Tolly built a dacha here. Dubulti was the first Jurmala beach, which could be reached from Riga by small ship.

Lielupe- part of Jurmala, 19 km from Riga.

It is located in a bend between the sea and the mouth of the Lielupe River into the Gulf of Riga. The place used to be called Bulli because it was on the boundary of the Bulli estate. One of the first places where dacha developments appeared. Lielupe has had its current name since the 30s.

On the bank of the Lielupe River there are the highest dunes in Jurmala - White Dunes or Raga Dunes (15 m above sea level). A steamship pier was built in the town of Stirnurags.

Melluzi- an integral part of the resort city of Jurmala.

Located between Pumpuri and Asari. During the Russian Empire, it formed a “single organism” with Asari (Asern) and was known under the general name Carlsbad

The name has been known since the 17th century - in 1693 the Melluzi house stood here. Perhaps the origin of the name is related to the blueberry-rich forests located in this area. The land belonged to the von Firks family. In 1827, when Karl von Firks built the Kurhaus here, the place began to be called Karlsbad II. In addition to the Kurhaus, there was also a tavern. The development was represented mainly by fishermen's houses, and in the second half of the 19th century, active construction of dachas began. Horticulture is developed in Melluzi, especially strawberry growing. During the First World War, the Kurhaus burned down. In its place a park with a concert stage was built. This is one of the first places in Jurmala where performances were given by local amateur actors in the Latvian language.

Pumpuri- part of Jurmala 28 km. from Riga.

Located between Jaundubulti and Melluzi. The former name - Carlsbad I - comes from the name of the owner of the land, Karl von Firks. Pumpuri is a dacha area where there was also a hydropathic resort, a boarding house and a car camping site. During Soviet times, a large number of pioneer camps were set up in nationalized dachas.

Majori- central beach of Jurmala.

The convenient location of the hotels makes it the most crowded and favorite beach of celebrities and tourists.

Initially, this is the territory of the village of Wildene, purchased by von Firks as a primordial estate (17th century) and until the First World War remained in the possession of the von Firks. As interest in Jurmala as a holiday destination grew, the lands of the Firks majorate were quite early divided into plots for the construction of summer cottages. The development penetrates into the dunes, reaching the very shore of the sea.

Since the opening of the railway in 1877, Maiori begins to develop as one of the busiest shopping and entertainment centers.

Dzintari- part of the city of Jurmala, 19 km from Riga. Dzintari is the most luxurious area with magnificent houses.

Since the 70s In the 19th century it was a favorite residence of Russian aristocrats.

In the 17th century this place was called Avoti after the family of fishermen. From 1874 to 1922 the place was called Edinburgh, given on the occasion of the wedding of the daughter of Tsar Alexander II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Dzintari is the most luxurious area with magnificent houses. Since the 70s In the 19th century it was a favorite residence of Russian aristocrats. In the first years of the existence of the Republic of Latvia, standard family houses were also built, in which the classic forms and details of national romanticism architecture, beloved in Jurmala, were used. Since the second half of the 30s, the Dzintari Concert Hall has become very popular, which in the summer season attracts a large number of music lovers and other concerts.

Liepaja- one of the best beaches on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

There is fine golden and white sand with a soft transition to the sea. The width of the beach in some places reaches 70 meters. The beach received the Blue Flag for its uniqueness and well-groomed nature. During the time of Tsarist Russia, Liepaja sand, practically without filtering, was used as a material for hourglasses.

The seaside park Jūrmalas stretches along the coastline. It was planted in the second half of the 19th century, and since then its area has increased to 50 hectares, and among the trees and shrubs there are more than 140 different varieties. At the beginning of the 20th century, a recreational area with a bathhouse, a sanatorium and a fountain was created here. Today, Jurmalas is open to everyone.

Ventspils- blue flag beach.

Since the end of the 20th century, Ventspils beach has been decorated with the Blue Flag - evidence that the sea water and the equipped beach meet international environmental quality standards. The international audit of the Blue Flag Society recognized Ventspils beach as the best beach in Latvia! The total length of the Blue Flag beach reaches 1.2 km. Most of Blue Beach is non-smoking.

In summer, there are beach volleyball courts, children's beach playgrounds and swings, and numerous cafes. The beach with delicate fine light sand reaches a width of almost 100 meters. The beach is adapted for people with disabilities; there are comfortable bridges with railings and special platforms.

There is also a professional rescue service on the Ventspils beach. There is an observation tower located near the beach, near the Southern Pier (19 m above sea level). There is a separate area for nudists and a specially equipped beach for surfers.

Directly by the sea there is a fairly large area for free parking. Next to the beach is the Ventspils Yacht Port, which also meets Blue Flag standards.

Nudist beaches.

There are at least 5 official beaches for naked relaxation near Riga. The most popular is in Vecaki.

The beach where everyone relaxes, what the mother gave birth in - in Vetsaki is located at the first station from which the seaside begins. Go down to the sea along the main street (it goes from the station), then turn right. And the beach is about 1 kilometer. If you don't pass by, there will be a big sign. However, it will be clear that this is a nudist beach. Well, no one is forbidden to walk past the seashore in clothes.

The next nudist beach is a little further, between the stations Garciems and Garupe. Even further away is the third nudist beach - at Inchupe station- It’s a bit far from the sea, the path is through the forest. The nudist beach is located half a kilometer to the left of the main road. Rumor has it that this is where meetings of the Latvian Nudist Society are held.

Another beach - to Bolderaja– the closest to Riga, but getting to it is difficult.

There is another nudist beach in Jurmala (inLielupe). On the outskirts, and with a river on one side, there are very few people here.
