    My parents gave me and my husband a trip to Malta for our paper wedding anniversary. To say that we were happy is to say nothing, we could not even imagine that before the New Year, we would not be in cold Moscow, but would be walking along the streets of Bugibba, basking in the sun :)

    Malta Archipelago Airport - Malta (Malta International)

    I want to start with the fact that Bugibba is located between two bays: St. Paul's Bay and Salina Bay. On the cape, which formed between the floods, there is a very good resort area. It includes three cities: Bugibba, Qawra, St. Paul's Bay. My husband and I visited each of the cities and all I can tell you is that the cities are beautiful:)

    The closest airport to Bujabb is Malta Airport, which is located 15 kilometers from the resort area. The airport is small in size and only has two check-in counters, so as you might imagine, there can be lines to wait at the airport. We had to wait in line for about 30 minutes until it was our turn, but I want to say that it was not that long. Before getting ready for a trip, I advise you to order tickets somewhere, for example, so that you don’t find out later that there are none. There are a couple of ATMs at the airport, however, we didn’t withdraw money, since we didn’t need it. Unfortunately, there is no pharmacy at the airport, but I just needed to buy eye drops, which I forgot at home, so I had to buy them in the city. But there is a medical center with a doctor on duty, and if you need help, you will get it.

    There are a couple of cafes where you can grab some food before the road. We went to one modest-sized cafe, ate and moved on to the road to the city. There are also shops where you can buy souvenirs and other little things that will be suitable as gifts for family and friends. You know, I want to say that although there are few stores, in terms of quality and assortment they are not inferior to the stores in the United Arab Emirates, where the assortment is simply incomparable :)

    I almost forgot to say that there are sockets at the airport. There are several posts where you can recharge your phone. Moreover, there are various sockets, that is, all types. I was charging my phone when we were driving home, I was using free wi-fi and the phone quickly ran out of charge. Charging, by the way, is free, you can charge as much as you need. You can also watch planes take off. I really enjoyed watching them rise into the sky from the observation deck :)

    And now I’ll tell you how and by what means you will have to get to the resort area, which includes three cities: Bugibba, Qawra, St. Paul’s Bay. You can do this in several ways, I will tell you about each of them, and then you decide for yourself. So, here are the very methods:

    • bus;
    • transfer;
    • automobile;
    • Taxi;

    By bus

    If you are one of the budget-conscious tourists, then your best option is to travel by public transport. Although my husband and I didn’t save much, we decided to go by bus, since we left the airport and the bus was just standing. Arrive buses run from the airport. They depart from the stop that is located opposite the airport. City buses also depart from here, as can be seen on the sign.
    Almost all routes end at Valletta Bus Terminus, as this bus station is considered the most important in the country.
    The fact is that there is no direct bus service between almost all resort towns. It is only available in the summer, and even then not always; the rest of the time, you need to go to Valletta, and from there you can get to any point in Malta. In summer, buses depart from 06:00 to 22:00 every 15 minutes, but as practice has shown, this is a waste of time. We took bus number X4 and went to Valletta bus station. There are also buses to the station under the numbers: X5, X4A, X7. You can take any of them, they all go to the station anyway. Buses run daily from 04:00 to 23:00 every 40 minutes. But on weekends buses run around the clock. The journey to the station takes 30 minutes.

    Once you arrive at the station, you should take a bus that goes to the town of Budgebba, Qawra or St. Paul's Bay, depending on where you want to go. At the bus station you can take the following buses:

    • No. 12 - the bus goes to Sliema, St. Julian's, and only then to Bujiba. The bus first travels through the east of the island and goes west to the last town;
    • No. 49, 58, 59, 70 – buses from the station go to the city of Aura. The photo below shows what public transport buses look like;

    • No. 86, 157, 427, 449 – buses go to St. Paul's Bay. All buses run daily, every half hour, so getting to any city is not a problem.

    You can also get from the bus station to other tourist cities that are popular among tourists:

    • – buses No.: 60, 62, 63, 64;
    • Mellieha – buses no.: 44, 45, 645;
    • – buses No.: 80, 81;
    • Marsaskala – buses no.: 17, 19;

    Marfa - buses No. 45, 645. You can find out more about the routes and schedule on the official website of Malta city transport.

    Fare

    • Travel from the airport to Valletta bus station will cost 1 euro;

    The cost of travel from the bus station to any city depends on what kind of ticket you need:

    • Single train ticket - for adults a ticket will cost 1.30 euros, and for children - 0.30 euros. The ticket is valid for two hours, after which it will be invalid;
    • A one-day trip - for adults it will cost 1.50 euros, for children - 0.50 euros.
    • Weekly trip (7 days) – a ticket for adults will cost 5.50 euros, but for children 2.30 euros;
    • Night ticket - a ticket for the night will cost adults 6.50 euros, children - 2.50 euros. I would like to note that all other passes described above do not apply to night trips; you only need a special night ticket.

    Where to buy tickets

    • Tickets for bus No. X4, X5, X4A and X7 can be purchased from the driver at the entrance;
    • Tickets from Valletta bus station to any resort town can be purchased at the automatic ticket office (TVM) at the bus station ticket office;
    • You can also purchase them at the terminals located at the Valletta bus station.

    By transfer

    If you do not want to travel by public transport, then you can use a transfer, which you need to order in advance. You need to ensure that your trip is as comfortable as possible. You can choose any carrier company that provides its services and submit a transfer request. In the application you must indicate all the requested data, as well as special wishes, if you have them, and that’s it, all that remains is to pay for the service. You can pay by card, and only half of the service is like a deposit, and the second half will need to be paid to the driver after he takes you to your final destination.

    The driver will meet you at the airport exit after your flight has landed and you have completed all formalities. So that you can recognize him, he will have a piece of paper in his hands with your name on it. Then he will take your luggage, and you can sit in the car and wait for departure. This is how you will get to any resort town quickly and comfortably.

    Transfer cost

    The price depends on which of the three cities you are going to, what brand of car you chose and how many people you are. On average, the cost will be about 70 euros.

    By car

    You can’t discount the option of renting a car. You can easily move between resort towns, and you will not need public transport. If you wish, you can book a car at any time, for example. First of all, make sure that you have an international driving license; without them, renting will be impossible. If you are over 21 years old, then renting a car will be easy.

    If you haven't rented in advance, then you can do it at the airport if you don't change your mind. Just go to any company counter and read the rental conditions. After all the formalities have been resolved, you will have to sign the contract and that’s it, you will receive the keys to the car.

    Rent price

    The cost of renting a car depends on how long you intend to rent for. The average rental cost will be about 80 euros per day.

    By taxi

    I want to say right away that a taxi in Malta is expensive and not everyone can afford it. Almost all cars are Mercedes, and this also affects the cost; they are mainly white and black. Moreover, travel on a black taxi will cost twice as much as on a white one. At the airport, at the exit from the terminal, there is a taxi stand, where you can choose a taxi:

    Taxi cost

    • A ride in a black taxi will cost you about 40 euros;
    • A ride on a white one will cost about 25 euros.
