I noticed that recently quite a lot of Russian tourists are choosing cruises to the Caribbean.
There are many airliners that go to Jamaica, but the most popular among ours are:
- liners MSC Opera And MSC Armonia, stopping at the port of Montego Bay, starting from Cuba;
- liner MSC Divina, starting in Miami and stopping in Ocho Rios, Jamaica;
- liners Oasis of the seas(which is considered the largest cruise ship in the world) and Harmony of the seas, staying in Falmouth;
- liner Carnival Breeze, also stopping in Montego Bay.

Cruise ships stay in Jamaica for one day. Each liner has its own layover time. This can be from 8 to 19, and from 10 to 17. What can cruisers see in one day?

Port of arrival Montego Bay. Perhaps the most convenient place to anchor a cruise ship, because it is from here that there is a huge selection of attractions.
1. Hummingbird Sanctuary and Negril Beach.
This excursion begins with a short stop in the center of Montego Bay: to see the historical monuments and life of the city.

The hummingbird sanctuary is about 20 minutes' drive from the city. This is the unique place where the pennant-tailed hummingbird - the national symbol of Jamaica - flies into your arms.

For those who haven't seen it yet:

Negril is famous for its 7 miles of white sand beach, which is not hot in the sun. We arrive at the famous Margaritaville, where you can lie on the beach, swim, drink a cocktail and have a good rest.

And before returning to the ship, we also stop at the no less famous Rick's Cafe, jump from the cliffs into the sea (or watch others jump) and enjoy the atmosphere.

A plus is a visit to souvenir shops (optional) and lunch at a restaurant (several to choose from).

2. You can do exactly the same excursion as described above, but replace any one of the three points with snorkeling.

Then in Negril we get into a boat, sail to the coral reefs, everyone is given masks and fins, and off we go - watch the fish and other marine life!

3. You can also replace any one of the three points with Blue Hole Negril.
This is a hole in the ground with a mineral lake where you can jump.

4. Tour of Montego Bay.
Of course, a hummingbird sanctuary.

Plus the fish market - look at the life of fishermen and pelicans.

5. Dunn's River Falls.

6. Blue Hole Falls.
Everything is the same as in the previous paragraph, only the waterfalls are different. You can also bungee jump there.

7. Nine Mile Village, where Bob Marley was born and buried.
We take the previous point, replace the waterfall with a village - and here it is, an excursion! It's just a long drive, Bob Marley lived in the mountains after all (not to be confused with the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston).

Sam Sharp Square

The area discussed below is the center of urban activity in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It is located in the area where the Cage is located - a former prison for runaway slaves, and later for all the blacks who were encountered by the police on the streets of the city on a Sunday after three o'clock in the morning.

The ruins of the Courthouse, which was built in 1804 but was damaged by fire almost twenty years ago, are also preserved here. The Heritage Trail is a popular tourist route that includes a visit to the square and allows you to learn more about the vibrant and rich history of Jamaica and its people.

The square has changed several names over its history, but in October 1983 it acquired its current name. At this time, a sculptural composition with Samuel Sharp delivering a sermon to the townspeople was installed here in honor of the 21st anniversary of Jamaica's independence.

Sam Sharp is a national hero, a Baptist deacon who became the leader of the uprising that began in the winter of 1831 and quickly spread throughout the parish. The freedom fighter paid too high a price for it - his own life. The British hanged him in the square in 1832.

St James's Church
