Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women(Azerb. Müqəddəs Mürdaşıyan Zənənlər Başkilsəsi listen)) - a temple of the Russian Orthodox Church, located in Baku, Azerbaijan. The cathedral was consecrated in the name of the myrrh-bearing women - women who came in the morning on the first day after Saturday to the Tomb of the risen Jesus Christ, with aromas and incense (myrrh) for the ritual anointing of the body.

Story

The church was built according to a standard design for military churches, approved by the Construction Commission in 1901 (architect Fyodor Mikhailovich Verzhbitsky). In total, at least 64 such churches were built in the Russian Empire by 1917. This temple for the 206th Salyan Infantry Regiment (until 1910 called the 262nd Infantry Regiment), stationed in Baku, was founded on May 6, 1908, built entirely at the expense of the War Ministry, and solemnly consecrated on December 6, 1909. Before this, the regiment used the old regimental St. Michael the Archangel Church in the city center, which has also survived to this day. During his Primate visit to Azerbaijan, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus' on May 27, 2001, performed the great consecration of the Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women and awarded it the status of the cathedral of the diocese.

After repair and restoration work, the opening of the renovated temple took place on March 24, 2003. Ark with the relics of the Apostle Bartholomew

The cathedral is also famous for the fact that it contains an ark with a particle of the holy relics of the Apostle Bartholomew, who is considered the patron saint of the city of Baku, and the revered icons of the Mother of God “Tikhvin” and “Caspian”. The marching (with the formed regiment) church was established in 1891. In 1909, the regimental church was established as a separate building, similar to military churches.

It was located on the outskirts of Baku, near a military town (in Soviet times - Krasny Vostok), in the area of the Alekseevsky (Salyan) barracks. The church was one of the first to be closed, in 1920.
