Originally erected on the territory of the estate of the temple builders, after the reconstruction of Yaroslavl according to the plan of 1778, the Ilyinskaya Church became the center of the administrative square, one of the main architectural structures of the city. The complex composition of the Elias Church was thus balanced according to the principle of a rocker: from the west (i.e., from the front) the temple is perceived as symmetrical.
