Open left menu las americas. Playa de Las Americas - the main resort of Tenerife Swimming and relaxing on the beaches

Las Americas is a modern resort center in Tenerife with good infrastructure and a variety of entertainment, next to wide sandy beaches. This is the largest, youngest and most popular resort in Tenerife. As a large settlement, it is the oldest city on the island. As Playa de Las Americas has grown in just the last 30 years, it has been designed and built to meet all the average European's requirements for a fashionable beach resort.

Location

Las Americas is located in an ideal location for a tourist center in Tenerife: on the south coast of the island, famous for its consistently warm and dry climate, as well as the best sandy beaches. The water off the coast here is almost always heated to more than +20°.

The beaches of Las Americas stretch for several kilometers. Initially, the southern coast of Tenerife was rocky and inconvenient for swimming. The purest fine sand for the eight beaches was specially brought from the Sahara Desert or raised from the ocean floor. And to protect the beaches from erosion, concrete breakwaters have been built everywhere. The calm ocean and gently sloping sandy bottom are ideal for swimming, even for small children.

Resort Features

Geographically, Las Americas is divided into two parts: the more lively and “party” Playa de Las Americas, and the more respectable and calm Costa Adeje, also known as the historical center. The conditional division of the districts runs along a dry river bed near the Esperia Troya Hotel.

Playa de Las Americas is a very beautiful, modern, well-groomed and incredibly clean city, the urban landscape of which is decorated with palm gardens going down to the very shore. And in the neighboring area of Costa Adeje it will be interesting to wander through the ancient streets among ancient elegant villas, temples and chapels. This is a typical European seaside resort. But for real island flavor you need to go to the town of San Juan (in the southwest of Tenerife) or to the northern Puerto de La Cruz.

Things to do in Las Americas

There are many opportunities for active recreation: jet skis, scooters, banana boats, etc. You can take a boat trip with or without fishing on yachts, sailboats, catamarans, of which there are many in the sports port of Puerto Colon. There are two water parks, nightclubs, casinos, discos, restaurants, colorful costume performances are regularly held - knightly tournaments, variety shows, flamenco-style parties, Spanish ballet.

So, if you have chosen Las Americas as your holiday destination, you can book an apartment or villa here. The price of an apartment (for 4 beds) in the center of the resort near the beach starts from 600 euros per week, and renting a small villa with two bedrooms 1000 m from the beach will cost from 1000 euros per week.

Las Americas is a town in the southern part of the island, an ideal, in my opinion, place for year-round recreation. is rightly called the island of eternal spring. And it’s true: proximity to the equator gives the effect of constant air temperature with slight fluctuations depending on the season. Proximity to water refreshes the air well, while the humidity is at around 40-50%.

Thanks to its unique location, Las Americas is dry and the wind speed is minimal, at a comfortable level. There are about 300 sunny days a year. Excellent mood and good health are guaranteed.

How to get there

There are many ways to get to the coveted Las Americas. The main thing is a creative approach :).

Here are just a few of them:

  • direct flight from Moscow,
  • by plane from St. Petersburg (with transfers),
  • by plane from Moscow and St. Petersburg to mainland Spain, from there by ferry to Tenerife,
  • by train from Moscow to Nice, Paris, Berlin - from there by plane,
  • by ferry from St. Petersburg to Finland, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Estonia - from there by plane,
  • by car to mainland Spain – from there by ferry to Tenerife.

By plane

There are only two airports in Tenerife - Sur and Norte (south and north).

  • Southern.

  • Northern.

If you want to save money, it is best to fly from Europe, on low-cost airlines Vueling or Norwegian, from Sweden, London, Germany or France. By the way, with this approach there is a good opportunity to visit without a visa - transit passengers have the right to visa-free entry for 24 hours. You can go to Sweden by ferry from St. Petersburg.

From Moscow and St. Petersburg, flights from the following companies fly every day: Vueling, Iberia, S7, BritishAirways, Aeroflot, KLM, AirEuropa, AirBerlin, Etihad, AirBaltic, AirFrance, Alitalia, Swiss, Lufthansa. Cost from 10,500 rubles when booking 5–9 months in advance

When departing from St. Petersburg, transfers with a total length of 3–7 hours take place in Moscow and Madrid. On a return flight, additional fees may be added to transit points.

Ticket price options can be viewed.

How to get from the airport to the center

From the South Airport to Las Americas you need to take buses No. 111 every 30 minutes, No. 343 - every 2-3 hours, and C711 runs at night. Price about 3.5 EUR. Flights several times a day, with an interval of 2 hours.

Route No. 343 runs from the northern airport. The cost is 12 EUR or 9 EUR when paying with a Bono-Via travel ticket. Travel time – 1.5 hours.

A taxi to Las Americas from the northern airport costs between 80 and 110 EUR. From South Airport a taxi costs from 30 to 70 EUR. The price depends on the type of transport - passenger car or minibus.

In Las Americas, buses arrive at the station. The best option is to choose accommodation in advance within a 30-minute or hour walk from the station or along the bus route. Pay attention to the map, it shows the location of key objects relative to the station.

  1. Malibu Park Hotel where I stayed
  2. Grocery Supermarkets and Shopping Centers
  3. Railway station
  4. Water parks

I want to note that a taxi is much more convenient than public transport and quite affordable if you travel in a group. This way you can get home straight away.

By train

To stretch out the pleasure of traveling, you can get to Europe by train. Trains regularly run from Moscow and St. Petersburg:

  • - , on Thursdays. From 15,000 rubles.
  • - , on Wednesdays. From 17,000 rubles.
  • Moscow – , on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From 11,000 rubles.
  • Moscow – , once a week, check the price on the date of your trip.
  • Moscow
  • – , check the price on the date of your trip.
  • – , check the price on the date of your trip.
  • – , check the price on the date of your trip.

Travel time is on average 2 days.

From any of the listed cities we fly to Tenerife by plane. This path is not cheap, but due to the duration, there is great pleasure in adventure and variety. By the way, on the way to France you can see about 7 different countries, go out during stops, and go shopping. The views from the train window cannot be compared to the most beautiful desktop wallpapers. Traveling on a train is convenient and comfortable, as if in a hotel that takes you to your vacation spot. An excellent option to relax and unwind while on the road. Of course, an airplane or any other type of transport (except ferry) will not provide such an opportunity.

It is best to plan and combine this route through ticketing sites. Sometimes departure days change. For example, on anywayanyday.com you can buy a plane ticket, train ticket and book a hotel.

By ferry

Tenerife can be reached by ferry from mainland Spain, from Huelva and Cadiz. And as I already wrote, from St. Petersburg to Scandinavia, Great Britain, Germany, from where planes regularly fly to the island of eternal spring.

Ferry company from Cadiz: we get to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The ferry runs on Saturdays. Departure from Huelva at 13.00, arriving in Gran Canaria at 18.15 the next day. The cost of the ferry (one car and 2 passengers) is approximately 570 EUR one way.

Aciona operates from Cadiz on Tuesdays. The ferry takes 40 hours to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. The cost for a large car and two people will be 560 EUR.

When is the season? When is the best time to go

Tenerife is the island of eternal spring. Air temperature and humidity are the same throughout the year, with slight variations depending on the season. This resort is suitable for year-round recreation. It's always warm and fresh here.

In summer in Tenerife, of course, it is warmer than in winter. Due to the low humidity, the heat is relatively easy to bear. In winter the temperature is +25–30. In summer about +35.

There are always the same number of tourists here. A little more in the summer, although this is simply due to ignorance. The best time to travel is from late autumn to late spring. The principle is simple: a little summer in winter, then summer comes in central Russia. It turns out that you compensate for the lack of heat and sun in the autumn-winter period, thanks to which the general condition of the body is maintained at a level of comfort and normal health throughout the year.

Las Americas in summer

Judging by the reviews, Las Americas is hot in the summer. About +30 degrees. There are a lot of people because it's the holiday season.

Since I was here in winter, I can’t say anything about my impressions of Las Americas in summer.

Las Americas in spring

In spring in Las Americas the temperature is about +30 degrees. The number of tourists is approximately the same as in winter.

Las Americas in winter

In winter the temperature is +25–30 degrees. There are few people in both Las Americas and greater Santa Cruz. Quite comfortable and without crowding. There are no nuances to winter holidays, since, as mentioned earlier, the weather is the same throughout the year. Winter in Tenerife is the ideal time to travel to take a break from the cold and compensate for the lack of sun.

Districts. Where is the best place to live?

If you want to penetrate deeper into the culture and way of life, it is better to rent an apartment in an apartment hotel or from local residents. For convenience, you should focus on the coastal area, since large supermarkets are mainly located there. But due to the short distances and if you love walking (or want to love it), you can rent accommodation higher up the slope.

You can rent an apartment either at the reception of apart hotels or through local agencies. The commission is usually 50-70 EUR per transaction.

Districts

Keep in mind that the busiest, most interesting places are located along the coast, south of the Autostrada Sur, between the Barannco del Agua River in the west and the port in the east.

  1. Inexpensive area of residential complexes and apart hotels. Accommodation price – 500 EUR per month for a one-room apartment, daily rent from 50 EUR. Residential area, few people, quiet.
  2. Golden Mile. Area of Five-star hotels, boutiques and private houses, as well as low-rise residential complexes. The asking price is one and a half to two times higher than in area No. 1. There are a lot of people here, a lot of luxury, shopping and entertainment.
  3. Del Duque district. Elite area of Five Star hotels and villas. There are few people. Hotels 200–300 EUR per night. Villas 1500–3000 EUR per week.

For example, I stayed at the Malibu Park Apartments (District No. 1) north of Highway Sur. In fact, the complex is a residential building with hotel services. Some live here permanently, others rent out apartments.

Infrastructure

Good news for those who are used to leading a sedentary and inactive lifestyle. Such people have the opportunity to seriously improve their health and train their cardiovascular system - there are practically no horizontal sidewalks on the entire island, including such large cities as Santa Cruz. You are always either going down or going up. In particular, to go to the nearby Mercadona supermarket at the intersection of Gran Bretana Street and Avenue de los Pueblos - the hill is very steep, literally from the threshold of the house to the store itself (descent) and then back. Local residents, however, have adapted special bags on wheels for grocery shopping, which (of course) are on sale. There are also decent supermarkets within walking distance in Malibu Park itself, on the ground floor. However, as everywhere else.

It's much easier with hotels. Choose according to your taste, budget, taking into account your distance from water and beaches.

Stunning views from the open areas of the yard overlooking the town and the Atlantic Ocean, which is just a short walk down the hill.

A decent-sized pool in the courtyard, a cafe, which apparently is owned by the British, and free WiFi, so, given the climate of the Canary Islands, you can work on a computer right outside by the pool (by the way, who needs a bigger pool, there is a water park across the road from the complex , Aqualand Costa Adeje).

What are the prices for holidays?

The most profitable vacation is a trip for a long time. Rent an apartment in an apart-hotel – 300–500 EUR per month. A similar amount when buying a budget hotel will be enough for about a week.

For food, household chemicals and tea in a cafe - about 300 EUR. Restaurant bills from 25 EUR.

Paid beaches – 10 EUR. The price includes a sun lounger under an umbrella. But you can sunbathe and swim quite comfortably without extra expenses. There are many more free and quite comfortable beaches in Las Americas.

For information on prices for excursions, see the “What to do” section.

A taxi costs from 20 to 100 EUR depending on the distance. In the city, as a rule, 20–30 EUR. To save money, it is better to walk or take the bus.

Main attractions. What to see

Attractions include parks, beaches, national parks and water parks. I was mainly interested in current things that have practical benefits - shops, bus routes, casinos, restaurants, the differences and advantages of local food products compared to Russian ones. I'll tell you about that.

Top 5

Beaches. Which ones are better

Among the paid ones we can recommend:

  • Playa del Duque is clean, calm, decent, mainly due to the premium status of the Del Duque area, surrounded by boutiques, villas, and luxury hotels.

  • Playa Fanabe is the longest in length, with an abundance of shops, cafes, restaurants, budget hotels, and entertainment for the whole family.

  • Playa de Puerto Colon is quiet, with calm waters and cheap.

I would like to note that all of the beaches listed are equipped with breakwaters, making it possible to safely swim even in windy weather and with children.

Free beaches have less comfort, more rocks and are not as clean, but this is also an option. By the way, there are common areas on paid beaches. They are no different except free entry. Although here you can rent a sun lounger and an umbrella for an additional fee.

Parks

  • The largest and most popular Siam Park is located just above the TF-1 highway.

  • Cañadas del Teide National Park at the top of Mount Teide.

    Anaga National Park.

  • Laguna Park on Pais Vasco street.

  • Jungle Park on Tinguafaya street.

  • Loro Park.

Tourist streets

The liveliest, most beautiful area of the Golden Mile is located in the east. It is bounded by Francisco Andrade Fumero Street to the south and east, and adjacent to Las Americas and Antonio Dominguez Avenues. Here I found a lot of restaurants, boutiques, shopping centers and of course crowds of happy people :).

On the map, the Golden Mile area is at the bottom. This is Avenue Las Americas (Avenida LAs Americas). Travel time from the Malibu Park Hotel takes about an hour along the busy Atlantic Ocean Boardwalk.

What to see in 1 day

  • Siam Park (3–4 hours).
  • Walk to the Golden Mile (Avenue Las Americas) for lunch and shopping (40 minutes).
  • In the evening before sunset (check the time depending on the time of year), return to the shore in the Las Cavitas area and admire the Canarian sunset. A walk to the place, during which you will see beaches, souvenir shops, yachts, etc., will take approximately 1 hour.

Sunset in Tenerife is a stunning sight. The day here is very short, and if you look closely, you can see how the sun moves, how it smoothly goes beyond the horizon. This natural attraction is akin to festive fireworks. Hundreds of people gather in Las Americas every day to watch the sunset.

Nearby Islands

Ferries run from the port to the nearby islands of La Gomera, La Palma, and Frontera. You can look at these islands on the map provided.

I haven’t been anywhere else besides Tenerife, so I can’t tell you the details.

Food. What to try

Seafood is the basis of the local diet. It is worth noting that the main advantage is freshness and affordable price. Shrimp (fresh - gray, not red, as we are used to), tuna, octopus, squid. I guarantee you will find out (if you forgot) what fruits and vegetables should smell like. What real fresh wine, juices, water taste like, even if they are in bottles and paper bags.

I recommend Mercadona grocery supermarkets, they have a huge selection of the entire range of products. Similar to our Spar and Prisma. Located in shopping centers and shopping malls. See the "shopping and stores" section for addresses.

Budget

  • Micky O'Malley's,
  • La CocTeleria,
  • Orange Cafe.

Expensive

  • Monte Christo,
  • Sucas,
  • Las Aguas,
  • Restaurant La Laja,
  • Las Rocas.

Holidays

The New Year is celebrated on a smaller scale than in Russia. Basically, the festive atmosphere reigns in clubs and restaurants, where they specially prepare for it. Occasionally you can see fireworks and fireworks.

Safety. What to watch out for

  • Beware of overheating. The locals know this well. You should appear on the street, and especially on the beach in open clothes (or without it :)) either before 12 or after 15 o'clock in the afternoon.
  • Be alert to the sudden appearance of smiling assistants and guides. Being a friendly, cool guy is the main quality standard for a scammer. However, it is important to remain polite even if suspicion arises. So, for example, they may come up to you on the street and offer you an unfamiliar timeshare service - purchasing passes for regular vacations with regular contributions. If you are interested, just visit the company’s office and find out what they offer and for how much.
  • Unfortunately, drug trafficking is thriving in LA Americas. Black glasses and watch dealers do this.
  • The same applies to nudist beaches, which are chosen by hunters of forbidden pleasures. It's true that everything is quite civilized. Such people make their proposals very quietly, but whisper persistently when you pass by.
  • Be careful in electronics stores. The best signal of the quality and honesty of sellers is the appearance and aesthetics of the department. As a rule, it is safest to buy something in large stores, supermarkets, and retail outlets of cellular companies.
  • There is one more nuance. They don’t talk about him openly, only among themselves. It concerns the psychology of local residents. In general terms, it consists of non-compliance, cancellation or revision of agreements and delays. This behavior is justified by the fact that Tenerife is located on an active volcano; underground there are constantly moving hot masses that strongly influence the geomagnetic background and, as a result, the way of thinking and behavior of people. This is fine. And, you see, it’s much better than the lifestyle of the cannibals who ate the famous navigator James Cook, not because they are evil, but out of respect for him as a great man :). Just tune in to the fact that the above behavior of the “Canaries” is an insurmountable obstacle. And if something happens that we Russians don’t quite understand, do as the esotericists advise - give thanks.

Things to do

What to do in the Canary Islands? Well, this is a creative question :). Walk more, look, touch, try, be interested, catch any incoming information with your ears and eyes.

Among the special entertainments I can highlight:

  • Excursion to the Teide volcano. If snow suddenly falls there and the peak is covered with a cap, it becomes the sensation of the day. Every now and then you hear around: snow has fallen on Teide! Excursion cost: 50 EUR, children from 2 to 12 years old – 25 EUR.
  • Water parks. Aqualand Costa Adeje is next to the Malibu Park apart-hotel and the giant Siam Park, where you can spend a whole day hiking. Every day, from 10:00 to 17:00 (in summer until 18:00). Entrance: 34 EUR for adults; 23 EUR for children.
  • Luxury shops: Del Duqui Shopping Center in the elite Del Duqui area, boutiques in five-star hotels and on Las Americas Avenue. Take 10 thousand EUR with you. Or better yet, 50 thousand. Branded clothing, Swiss watches without VAT and restaurants will be yours :).
  • Yachting – from 150 EUR per hour.
  • Scuba diving – 55 EUR for 2 hours.
  • Gastronomic research – 100 EUR? buy all the most delicious and unusual things.
  • Cultural center Magma Art. Concerts, exhibitions, and sporting events take place here.
  • Excursion to the Pyramids of Guimar. Entrance: 11 EUR for adults; 5.50 EUR for children.
  • Fishing in the yacht port of Puerto Colon - from 60 EUR for 4 hours.
  • Read a book or watch a movie. At a certain stage, you need to pause to take a breath and look around. And just live like a local. Go to the store, buy groceries, cook a delicious dish and spend the day calmly, as if you were here forever. Think back to your everyday life at home. As practice shows, such a routine will bring much more joy and provide better rest. One thing or one attraction per day is the best option. You can even take a bus to Santa Cruz, in the north of the island. It turns out to be a journey within a journey.

Shopping and shops

  • As I already wrote, the best area for shopping is the Golden Mile along Las Americas Avenue, where there are shops for every taste and budget, from ordinary market departments to luxury boutiques of clothing, watches and jewelry.

  • I can also recommend Parque Santiago III.

  • Parque Santiago 6 on Avenue de Chayofita.

  • The luxurious Plaza del Ducue, which in turn is surrounded by a lot of small shops and cafes.

  • Siam Mall on Siam Avenue, 3 located just behind the Siam Park amusement park.

  • Budget shopping center San Eugenio on the corner of Gran Bretagna street and TF-481 road. There is also a Mercadona grocery supermarket on the ground floor.

  • Ocio Gran Sur shopping center, between Lisboa and .

Extreme Sports

One of the extreme sports is surfing. True, the best place to “ride the wave” is in the eastern and northern parts of Tenerife.

Las Americas is the best region for surfing. There are many schools here and there are always waves. Sometimes surfers are found on the section that starts from the Barranco De Troya River and goes east towards the port. The reason is simple - there are no breakwaters here. And for the same reason, you need to be careful here, watch your children and how far you swim from the shore.

Tenerife has a lot of schools for surfers and private teachers.

There are many surf spots here, in the north and south of the island. There are always waves in Tenerife. Most popular spots on South. Large concentration of surf shops and schools.

A surfing course per week costs approximately 500 EUR. One lesson from 35 EUR per person for a group and from 70 EUR per person for an individual lesson.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

Las Americas has a huge number of souvenir shops. The ones that catch your eye the most are T-shirts and baseball caps. The most exquisite and authentic items include honey collected on the Teide volcano, national clothing and embroidery, ceramics (for example, number plates for a house or apartment), olivine - an olive-colored ornamental stone, and sauces.

Fans of Swiss watches can buy a good example here at 2 times cheaper than in Russia. In addition, it will be less likely to see the same one in another person at home.

How to get around the city

You can travel short distances on foot or by bicycle.

In the first days, take any bus: this way you can get a general impression of the island, record interesting places in your memory (or GPS navigator of your smartphone) so that you can return there again. Remember to check your destination and schedule before boarding the bus. Tell the driver the name of the place where you are going so that he can confirm or indicate a more suitable route. Just in case, have at least 50 EUR with you if you find yourself in an unfamiliar place at night. But again, the distances here are short and the people are friendly and civilized. There will always be a way out.

An alternative to walking or cycling is a scooter. It makes it easier to overcome endless climbs. You can use it when you get tired of training your calf muscles.

Personally, for two months of my life I only used legs and buses. In the first case, you are in complete control of the situation, but you cannot go far. In the second you will have to be more vigilant, smarter, but physically less tired :).

Taxi. What features exist

Taxi costs from 20 EUR depending on the distance. Cash and bank cards are accepted for payment.

Taxi drivers' uniform is dark blue trousers and a blue polo.

Buses

The bus network is very developed throughout the island. At the airport and other tourist centers you can purchase a map with routes. Transport runs on schedule. You buy a ticket from the driver, first naming your destination. This is mandatory, since your stop may be in the middle of the journey and then the ticket price will be different. At the entrance to the salon there are electronic composters - you insert the ticket from above, it is pulled in and comes out again. The travel time and remaining cost will be printed in black letters on the ticket. If, for example, there is 0.50 EUR left on the ticket, and your trip costs 1.5 UER, then you simply pay the driver the rest.

The traffic is very intense. The roads are sloping. There are only a few traffic lights and they are very rare. The rule is almost always the same - politeness, courtesy and communication skills. Look not at the cars, but at the drivers. Smile. Remember, the other driver may simply not know that you have a main road :).

If you are confident driving, you can take a car, but keep in mind that most of the roads here are inclined, sometimes 45 degrees. Sometimes more. And not many direct ones. So it’s better to think in advance about how to parallel park and how feasible it is for you.

I repeat, there are very few traffic lights, I remember one or two. All traffic is based on the signs that drivers give to each other from their seats. And, most importantly, everything happens very quickly. If you think you're cool behind the wheel, pay attention to the way passenger buses drive, on winding (which is the majority here), inclined, two-lane roads. I admit, at such moments, I was sincerely glad that I was sitting in a large and relatively safe bus, and not in a small passenger car.

Las Americas - holidays with children

The idea of relaxing with children makes sense at least in terms of establishing positive experiences and emotions that will guide a person throughout his life. Sun, air, delicious food, water, parks, mountains - the ideal combination for a young, growing organism.

The resort of Playa de las Americas is located - one of the most popular holiday destinations among Europeans in the Canary Islands. Every year a huge number of tourists come to visit it, attracted by its well-developed infrastructure, convenient location and almost year-round tourism.

What exactly can be seen in the largest resort of Tenerife, Las Americas, you will learn from this article.

Weather in Las Americas, Tenerife

Compared to the northern part of the island, the southern is perfect for the beach resorts located here. The mountain range dividing Tenerife protects the south from the cold trade winds of the northeast, so the weather here is excellent: the water temperature near Las Americas in Tenerife does not fall below +18˚С all year round, in summer it is moderately hot (+28˚С), and in winter – +22˚С. Rains are very rare and do not last long.

Hotels in Las Americas, Tenerife

There are a huge number of hotels here, varying in level of comfort: from economy class to VIP apartments. In addition, you should also take into account that the location of the chosen housing must correspond to your type of vacation; for this you need to choose the right area. In the western part of the town it is quiet and peaceful, making it perfect for a family holiday. In the central area it is noisy and crowded around the clock, since most of the discos and clubs are located here, mainly young people relax here. And in the east of the resort - all establishments do not work until the morning; during the day and in the evening people have fun, and at night they relax.

Basically, relatively new hotels for tourists with average incomes are located here. Among them are:

  • Europe Villa Cortes 5* - the most comfortable of all those available on the coast;
  • Gran Tinerfe 4* is the oldest hotel in the resort, the very first one built on the coast in 1971, where a casino popular among vacationers is located.
  • Sir Anthony Hotel Tenerife 5* - in addition to well-equipped rooms, there is everything for a good holiday: an indoor beach, a huge outdoor swimming pool, excursions, tennis courts and a golf course.

Beaches of Las Americas, Tenerife

In total, along 15 km of the resort’s coastline there are 8 beaches, protected from ocean waves by boulders placed in the water. Mostly the beaches have black volcanic sand, but there are also places with yellow sugar brought from the desert (mostly closed, related to a specific hotel). All of them are clean, well equipped and visiting them is absolutely free, which is an additional plus.

Attractions of Playa de las Americas

In addition to beaches and entertainment venues, there is much more to see on the island.

Las Americas, or Playa de las Americas, is the largest resort in the south of Tenerife and the most popular resort on the island. It is located 75 km from the capital of the island - the city of Santa Cruz.

The name Las Americas did not originate in connection with America, but in honor of the great navigator Christopher Columbus and his “colleague” Amerigo Vispucci.

The center of Las Americas, around the Sol Tenerife hotel, is the most “party” part of the resort. Most of the discos and clubs are located here, and the streets remain lively until late at night. The eastern part is quite crowded during the day and evening, but by midnight, as a rule, all establishments close and tourists go to their rooms.

In January and February, this fertile shore offers ideal conditions for swimming in the sea and sunbathing.

The coast of Las Americas is administratively divided into two areas, with a dry river bed serving as the conventional border between them. The western part is called Costa Adeje, the eastern part is Playa de las Americas. Nearby is the Los Cristianos area. Despite the official division, one area smoothly flows into another. And the conventional border between them is considered to be the small mountain Chiofita.

It's no wonder that Tenerife is called "the island with two faces." Its southern and northern sides, separated from each other by a mountain range, are so strikingly different, as if they were in different climatic zones. The mountains do not allow the cold eastern trade winds to pass through, protecting the south of the island (a popular resort area) from the surprises of nature. But at the same time, the north of the island is covered with dense greenery, while the south is more reminiscent of an arid desert.

How to get there

The island of Tenerife is the only one of all the Canary Islands where you can fly from Russia by direct flight. Regular charter flights to Reina Sofia International Airport are operated by VIM-Avia and S7; you will have to spend 7.5 hours in the air. With a transfer in Europe it will, of course, take longer. At the same time, the price is approximately the same for both direct flights and connecting flights: on average 170-480 EUR.

From the airport you can get to Las Americas (about 11 km) by bus, ticket price is 2-3 EUR. Other resorts can also be reached by bus: to Puerto de la Cruz - 9-15 EUR; to Santa Cruz - 8-13 EUR; to Los Gigantes - 5-6 EUR.

Near Playa de las Americas, in Los Cristianos, there is a small port from where ships depart, connecting the island of Tenerife with the neighboring islands of La Gomera and Gran Canaria. Most boat excursions also start from this port.

Prices on the page are as of November 2018.

3 things to do in Las Americas

  1. After sacrificing one day of lying on the beach, go trekking in the Masca gorge (not far from neighboring Los Gigantes).
  2. Refusing peaceful sleep one night, dancing until dawn at local discos.
  3. Giving up on your slender figure, taste all the local delicacies and seafood dishes.

Las Americas Hotels

Almost all of the resort's hotels were built relatively recently and are distinguished by the highest level of technical equipment, comfort and service. The oldest hotel here is the Gran Tinerfe, built in 1971. Which, nevertheless, is still considered a very worthy “four”.

Married couples with children and lovers of silence are better off settling in the western part of the resort, which is considered quieter and more respectable.

Beaches and entertainment in Las Americas
